Job Title: Junior R&D Researcher
Reports to: R&D Manager
Number of direct reports: 0

Job Summary

The role of the Junior Researcher is to work together with the R&D Manager to develop new products and associated processes. These include process development and scale-up of processes relevant to MH Health, in line with current GMP and GACP guidelines. The researcher is required to liaise with several departments across which research at MG Health spans, including procurement, sales, and logistics. The researcher is required to provide all
documentation as required by the QA department and any external consultant. This position requires innovation and a strong sense of research to keep up with current technologies, GACP, and cGMP. Collaboration and skill transfer will be mediated by this position, which requires open-mindedness and inquisitiveness.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Responsible for:

  • Planning research objectives and establishing test parameters.
  • Identifying research goals, establishing methods, and executing research experiments.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of research projects at MG Health.
  • Working with external consultants to bring about value-adding research at MG Health.
  • Gathering value-adding knowledge to apply at MG Health for continuous quality improvement, in line with cGMP/GACP, and conducting research in line with MG Health’s strategy.

2. Ensures that:

  • Research projects are monitored and evaluated for effective knowledge creation and problem solving while also maintaining cost-effectiveness.
  • Research projects follow requirements and standards.
  • There is adequate GMP-compliant equipment to achieve research objectives.
  • Vendors provide documentation for equipment and supplies.
  • Protocols for the qualifications of equipment are well written, and the equipment is qualified.
  • Training on the use of the equipment and its documentation is undertaken.
  • SOPs on the equipment use, as well as preventative maintenance, are in place.
  • Any work undertaken by consultants ultimately leads to value-adding skill transfer.

3. To communicate:

  • All deviations and potential deviations to the R&D manager.
  • All delays or deviations from timelines to the R&D manager.
  • All plans and experimental designs to the R&D manager.
  • Any challenges with procurement, vendors, logistics, or any other research-related concerns to the R&D manager.

4. To assist with research on any area deemed necessary by MG Health Ltd.

5. To support the R&D manager in product development, process development, scale-up, as well as project planning.

6. To negotiate with vendors regarding the equipment necessary at MG Health.

7. To assist with any tasks related to research at MG Health, at the discretion of the R&D manager.

Requirements and Required Skills

Qualifications:
  • Diploma/degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Technology, and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • Research experience in the pharmaceutical or food industry is an added advantage.
  • Experience in Cannabis cultivation is an added advantage.
  • A research-based degree is advantageous.
Skills:
  • Research – Gather literature, develop experimental designs, and execute as planned.
  • Excellent communication skills – Ability to communicate on matters of research, progress, requirements, challenges, and milestones to relevant stakeholders on time.
  • People management – Ability to delegate, lead, and transfer skills to the assistants where necessary.
  • Analytical skills – Ability to gather, process, and present data accurately for sound decision making.
  • Problem solving – Ability to solve problems independently.
  • Teamwork – Ability to share work and ideas with the research team, working towards one goal in line with MG Health’s vision
  • Competent with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of data analysis, interpretation, and statistical analysis.
Physical Demands
  • At times, the person is required to stand for several hours.
  • This position does require the individual to lift 10-15kg,
    • Use of tools for maintenance of equipment is sometimes undertaken with this position.
