Job Title: Lab Assistant
Report To: Quality Control Manager
Number of Direct Reports: N/A

JOB SUMMARY

The Laboratory Assistant will work along with senior staff to collect and prepare samples, perform tests, and record results. They will also assist with any relevant quality control roles in the Manufacturing department.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To Perform the Following
  • Receipt of Material during a harvest according to relevant documentation.
  • Collection of samples when required in and out of the Manufacturing facility.
  • Classification and labelling of the collected samples.
  • Storage of samples in relevant storage areas.
  • Preparation of the samples for testing using various in-house laboratory equipment.
  • Packing of samples for transportation to an outsourced laboratory.
  • Comply with correct procedures and ensure GMP principles are followed in the processing and non-processing areas.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct relevant chemical, physical, and microbiological laboratory tests and record the results.
  • Monitor product quality and ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Report inventory quantities to the QC Manager.
  • Report any discrepancies to the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Officers, the QC Manager, or the Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Stay informed with the latest techniques and practices.
  • Undertake basic administrative tasks such as filing and answering phones
  • Think creatively to assist in development and improvement.
Ensures that:
  • All relevant documents are completed promptly and according to the relevant SOP. e.g., Logbooks.
  • The laboratory equipment is maintained, and the work area is kept clean and organized.
  • The Laundry is done on time, and the area is kept clean and organized.
  • Correct use of resources used in and out of the laboratory.
To communicate:
  • Any concerns to the QC Manager, where applicable.
  • Any relevant information with the QA/QC Officers and peers, ensuring that there are no information gaps.
  • With the QC Manager/Deputy, should any concerns not be resolved.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS

  • High School Certificate

  • Good understanding of laboratory systems and automated equipment
  • A critical thinker with strong attention to detail
  • Outstanding analytical abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Result Oriented – to meet set deadlines.
  • Teamwork – to work as a unit for the benefit of the department and the company.
  • Capable of working in a dynamic work environment with minimal direct supervision.
  • Honesty with high integrity.
Physical Demands
  • At times, this position is required to stand for several hours.
  • This position does require the individual to lift 10 – 15 kg.
  • At times, this position does require the individual to wear a coverall and full-face respirator.
