Job Description
Job Purpose
To ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety legislation, policies, and practices, thereby enabling business operations to be conducted without exposing staff to unmanageable risks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Health & Safety Oversight
- Ensures accurate documentation of workplace incidents and occupational health and safety events.
- Conducts regular workplace inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Delivers training and education on safety procedures and emergency preparedness.
- Ensures compliance with applicable health and safety regulations.
- Investigates accidents and near-misses and recommends corrective actions.
- Enforces health and safety policies and procedures.
- Guides employees during emergencies, ensuring awareness, training, and access to appropriate equipment.
Operational Support
- Liaises with medical personnel on workplace health issues.
- Processes workman’s compensation claims promptly.
- Ensures timely updates to employee medical aid records.
- Administers Income Continuation Benefit claims.
- Monitors and tracks progress on audit findings and remediation plans.
Training & Culture Development
- Coaches OHS representatives on identified risk and compliance gaps.
- Ensures all staff complete mandatory OHS training.
- Promotes a strong health and safety culture across the organization.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Identifies and addresses non-compliance with OHS guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Implements corrective actions to mitigate identified risks and trends.
- Ensures adherence to legislative requirements and integrate changes into workplace practices.
Requirements
Education Requirements and Experience
- Degree in SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) Management.
- 2–5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Solid understanding of regulatory laws and compliance.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to support and ensure employees meet Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training requirements.
- Capable of delivering moderately complex training sessions.
- Strong understanding of Health and Safety regulations, principles, and standards.
- Proven ability to develop and implement OHS policies, frameworks, and procedures.
- Knowledge of international and local OHS standards and ability to apply them effectively in the workplace.
- Analytical skills to identify risks, trends, and gaps, and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to promote a safety-first culture
