About Us:

Ratau A02 Community Development Trust Company (RCDTC) is located at Machache constituency, Metolong Ha-Rachere within Metolong Dam catchment in the district of Maseru. Its objective is to improve the lives and livelihood of the Metolong community residing near the dam by creating jobs, training, etc. The company was funded by Metolong Authority with compensation funds for community natural resources affected by the construction of the Metolong dam.

Position Summary:

The General Manager (GM) Poultry Production Project is the senior executive responsible for the strategic, operational, financial, and social performance of the organization’s integrated poultry project in Lesotho. The project includes broiler production, egg production, slaughterhouse and processing operations, and community outreach initiatives. The GM reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for translating Board policies and strategic direction into effective operations while ensuring compliance with the laws of Lesotho, maintaining high standards of food safety, animal welfare, biosecurity, and contributing to national food security and rural livelihoods.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Governance

• Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the poultry production project in line with the Board’s vision.
• Develop and implement strategic and operational plans aligned with Lesotho’s agricultural and economic development priorities.
• Prepare and submit regular performance, financial, and risk reports to the Board of Directors. Advise the Board on industry trends, risks, investment opportunities, and policy developments affecting poultry production in Lesotho.
• Represent the organization in engagements with government ministries, regulators, development partners, financiers, and industry bodies.

Poultry Production Operations

• Broiler Production: Oversee planning and management of broiler production cycles, including chick placement, feeding programs, flock health, biosecurity, and productivity. Ensure efficient production scheduling to meet slaughterhouse and market demand while minimizing costs and losses.
• Egg Production: Manage layer operations, including housing, nutrition, health programs, egg collection, grading, storage, and distribution. Ensure consistent egg quality and compliance with national food safety and quality standards.

Slaughterhouse & Processing Management

• Provide executive oversight of slaughterhouse operations, including humane slaughter, processing, cold chain management, and waste handling.
• Ensure full compliance with Lesotho’s public health, veterinary, environmental, and food safety regulations.
• Implement and maintain quality assurance systems such as HACCP and standard operating procedures.
• Coordinate farm production and processing capacity to optimize throughput and profitability.

Financial & Commercial Management

• Prepare and manage annual budgets, cash flows, and financial forecasts for all operational units.
• Monitor production costs, profitability, and financial performance against Board-approved targets.
• Oversee procurement of inputs such as feed, day-old chicks, vaccines, and equipment, with an emphasis on value for money and local sourcing where possible.
• Develop and implement marketing and sales strategies for poultry meat and eggs within Lesotho and, where feasible, regional markets.

Human Resource & Organizational Leadership

• Recruit, lead, and supervise senior management, technical staff, and operational teams.
• Establish clear performance targets, appraisal systems, and staff development programs.
• Ensure compliance with Lesotho labour laws, occupational health and safety requirements, and organizational HR policies.
• Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Community Outreach & Smallholder Integration

• Design and oversee community outreach initiatives, including smallholder poultry farmer support, contract farming, training, and extension services.
• Strengthen linkages between the project and local communities to support livelihoods, youth employment, and women’s participation.
• Collaborate with local authorities, farmer groups, NGOs, and development partners to enhance social impact.
• Ensure that project operations maintain positive relationships with surrounding communities.

Compliance, Risk & Sustainability

• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations of Lesotho, including veterinary, environmental, food safety, and business regulations.
• Identify operational, financial, environmental, and biosecurity risks and implement mitigation measures.
• Promote environmentally sustainable practices, including waste management, water use efficiency, and responsible resource utilization.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

• Bachelor ‘s degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Extension, Agricultural Economics or any related field.
• Project Management and Monitoring and Evaluation will be an added advantage.
• At least a minimum of 2-3 years working experience in farm management and other senior management positions.
• Preference will be Mosotho born and raised within the region of the project site (Metolong Machache).

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong strategic leadership and decision-making skills.
• Computer literacy with clear knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Sound technical understanding of poultry production and processing systems.
• Good conflict management and negotiation skills.
• Fluent in Sesotho and English.
• Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Valid Driver’s license.
