Job Title: Research Assistants (2)

Overview

Position Overview: Jhpiego is seeking two Research Assistants to support the implementation of the PrEP-eMTCT project in Lesotho. This project focuses on integrating HIV prevention options into maternal health services to reduce HIV transmission during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

The Research Assistants will be responsible for conducting qualitative interviews in line with project protocols and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Recruit study participants

• Schedule IDI interviews with study participants (key informants, influencers, and providers, and cohort study participants on acceptability/ feasibility of PrEP and PrEP choice

• Conduct in-depth interviews, key-informant interviews, and FGDs with study participants using a tape recorder

• Conduct transcription and translation of interview and FGD recordings

• Support the data analysis process; organize data, create initial codes, and themes to inform analysis.

• Share interviews’ debriefing notes as scheduled, as agreed with the Supervisor.

• Share the full report of the scheduled interview, as agreed with the Supervisor.

• Adhere to the principles and procedures on data collection.

• Follow the guidelines of data collection provided in the protocol and study SOPs.

• Timely consult and communicate any challenges encountered during data collection with the study Coordinator.

• Perform any other related duties

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Demography, Economics, Sociology, public health, or any other related social science subject from any recognized institution.

• Excellent knowledge of qualitative research: FGD/IDI data collections

• At least 2 years’ experience in HIV/AIDS related research conduct and implementation

• Familiarity with qualitative data storage and analysis systems

• Excellent English and Sesotho writing skills

• Experience in taking notes during IDI/FGD interviews

• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

• Non-judgmental attitude, humanitarian values, and ethics are absolute preconditions

• Energetic, independent, and self-motivated

• Good knowledge of spoken and written English and Sesotho Language is a requirement
